The US Powerball game, arguably one of the most popular and widely-played games in the United States, is a shared jackpot game which is co-ordinated by an NPO formed by an agreement between the various state lotteries. The US Powerball game has become renowned for its impressive $40 million starting jackpot, with the potential of yielding nine-figure jackpot wins.

Right before Christmas two years later, in 2011, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Virginia Seitz wrote a legal opinion that said the Wire Act was limited to sports betting and that lotteries operating online would not be violating the Wire Act. On the surface, it seemed like the unleashed state lotteries would rush online and that Internet sales would fuel lotteries across America, providing players an alternative to waiting in line at the local convenience store.
