The US Powerball game, arguably one of the most popular and widely-played games in the United States, is a shared jackpot game which is co-ordinated by an NPO formed by an agreement between the various state lotteries. The US Powerball game has become renowned for its impressive $40 million starting jackpot, with the potential of yielding nine-figure jackpot wins.

Right before Christmas two years later, in 2011, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Virginia Seitz wrote a legal opinion that said the Wire Act was limited to sports betting and that lotteries operating online would not be violating the Wire Act. On the surface, it seemed like the unleashed state lotteries would rush online and that Internet sales would fuel lotteries across America, providing players an alternative to waiting in line at the local convenience store.

Power Play allows players to increase their non-jackpot winnings, except the Match 5 prize, by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times if they purchased the Power Play feature. (The Match 5 prize is increased to $2 million if a player adds Power Play regardless of the Power Play number drawn.) A 10 times multiplier will be available for initially advertised jackpot amounts of $150 million or less. The Power Play number will be randomly drawn at the time of the Powerball drawing. When a ticket is purchased at retail, your ticket will clearly be marked with a YES indicator for the Power Play feature. If you don’t purchase Power Play, your ticket will be clearly marked with a NO indicator for the Power Play feature.
Online services do not charge commission so you can win all the same prizes as anyone who buys a Powerball ticket from a retailer, but you still have to pay taxes like everyone else. All big prizes are subject to federal tax of 25%, and there is then a state withholding depending on where the ticket is purchased. Each state has a different tax rate, and some cities also apply their own separate rules.
